Scottsdale Police Enhance Child Passenger Safety Efforts During National Awareness Week

Department to Increase Enforcement and Offer Free Car Seat Inspections

The Scottsdale Police Department is intensifying its focus on child passenger safety during Child Passenger Safety Week, observed from September 21 to 27, 2025.

In collaboration with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the department aims to raise awareness about the critical importance of correctly using car seats, booster seats, and seat belts to protect children while traveling.

Throughout the week, Scottsdale Police will increase enforcement of child passenger safety laws and enhance public visibility to ensure compliance and educate the community.

To support this initiative, the Scottsdale Fire Department offers free car seat inspections by appointment.

Certified technicians will assist parents and caregivers in ensuring that car seats are properly installed and appropriate for the child's age, weight, and height.

Scottsdale appointments can be scheduled by calling 480-312-2229 (BABY).

Additionally, the Scottsdale Family Resource Center provides car seat inspections and, for eligible Scottsdale residents meeting income guidelines, offers a limited number of free car seats.

To make an appointment, call 480-312-0038.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, car seats and booster seats significantly reduce the risk of injury in a crash when used correctly.

However, many seats are improperly installed, compromising their effectiveness.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to take advantage of these resources to ensure their children's safety on the road.

For more information on child passenger safety and to find additional resources, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.
